Brand & Visual Design Projects

Brand identity, visual systems, and campaign design, plus the process behind them. Some of these brands I built from the ground up; others I extended within a system that already existed. Every one started by listening.

Momentum Peak

Momentum Peak

The final logo design for Momentum Peak. The client wanted a simplistic geometric look, as it fit the company's aesthetic of being holistic and intentional.

A coaching business that serves students from middle school through college, and their parents. Design system, logo creation, and website mock-ups.

I started with an intake conversation with the owner, then mapped on paper what the name should carry: milestones, a gradual path, climbing, and a nod to Longs Peak. From pen sketches I developed three moodboard directions, and the owner chose the geometric one. I drew concepts in Procreate, prepared the final logo files in Illustrator, and delivered them as SVGs in a regular and an inverse version.

Mind Map

Before drawing anything, I mapped what the name needed to carry based on the intake conversation: steady progress, climbing, and a local landmark in Longs Peak.

Thumbnail Sketches

Quick pen sketches let me test many ideas for turning the company's values into visuals, from badges to trail maps.

Moodboards

The company's branding journey started with determining a direction that best fit its mission and personality. Three directions were explored: Adventurer, Nature, Local; Playful, Whimsical, Nostalgia; Simple, Elegant, Intentional.

Design System

The owner had a strong feeling towards using a navy color as the anchor, connecting to the color of Long's Peak and earthy tones were chosen to complement the navy and to build out the palette. The typography pairing was chosen to be impactful but easy to read.

Final logo design, refined to fit The Groups' brand guidelines and used on Bry Barton's website.

The Process

Bry and I started from scratch, with no existing brand. I built a design system with a color palette and typography, and explored logos in gold, dark green, and charcoal. That first design did not meet approval. I had asked about brand guidelines early and confirmed the direction with Bry, but I did not yet have a contact in their design department. Once I was connected, we swapped the colors and refined the system to fit the guidelines, quickly. The final palette is Charcoal, Sunshine, Warm White, Linen, and Ink, with Cormorant Garamond for headings and Jost for body. I shot the site’s local photography and edited the website’s photos in Lightroom and Photoshop.

Design System

One reference Bry can use for all future branding, with text contrast tested so everything stays readable and fits with her company's existing brand.

My first direction. It didn't fit The Groups' brand guidelines, so I changed the colors and kept the overall look. Reference photos are from other sources.

Logo Sheet

Exploring the BB monogram across type, color, and light and dark backgrounds before narrowing to three options for Bry.

Site Photos

Local photography, shot and edited by me, so the site shows the real Northern Colorado places Bry's clients are moving to.

The Process

The brand started with a photo I took: an Airstream in the sagebrush at Horsetooth Reservoir, where we like to camp with friends and family. My love of nature and Colorado, and the calm that comes from feeling connected to the land and its people, shaped the feel of the company. I pulled the palette from that photo so the same serenity and connection carry into the work I do for my clients.

The photo that set the feel of the site, and where the inspiration for the design system started.

Design System

Used the connection to the nature in Northern Colorado to curate a design system that promotes calm and reads clearly.

Icons

Icon ideas sketched on paper first to get a feel for what works best visually and then turned into custom code with animation.

Socials

A content calendar with recurring themes keeps my posting consistent without starting from scratch each week.
